Nearly 300 Nigerian school girls were kidnapped by the terrorist group Boko Haram on April 14, but it took two weeks for the story to go viral on Twitter. The rest of the world’s media was slow to catch up too. Now that Boko Haram has taken responsibility for abducting the girls from their school with plans to sell them, the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls is spreading like wildfire and the Nigerian government is finally asking for international help to find them. The map below shows how the story finally exploded on Twitter:
