See How Many Medals Every Country Won at the Paris Summer Olympics

The race to see which country will take home the most medals in this year’s Paris Summer Olympics has come to a close.

Atop the leaderboard is Team USA with a comfortable lead at 126 total medals—40 of which are gold, dominating in swimming, gymnastics, athletics, and more. Over the final weekend, Team USA’s men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and women’s soccer teams all returned to glory with gold medal wins.

China finished in second place with 91 total medals, matching the U.S. with 40 gold medals as the country triumphed in diving and shooting.

Great Britain ended in third place with 65 total medals—including 14 golds, with Team GB seeing big wins in equestrian and rowing.

Host country France rounded out the top four with 64 medals—including 16 golds, four earned by swimmer Léon Marchand.

At the Summer Olympics, there were 329 medal events—157 for men, 152 for women, and 20 mixed-gender events. 

Over the 19 days of competition, around 10,500 athletes competed for medals in 32 sports, and for the first time they did so with gender parity—with the same number of male and female athletes.

Historically, Team USA has dominated the Summer Olympics, entering Paris with 1,070 gold medals and 2,667 medals overall.

At the close of the Paris Summer Olympics, and ahead of the Paralympic Games starting on Aug. 28, here’s how many gold, silver, and bronze medals each country won.
